About The Speaker

Eureka!

This creative team-building activity, inspired by Tom & Jerry cartoons, challenges teams to construct a Rube Goldberg-style machine. Participants receive diverse props and must design a contraption that moves five balls sequentially, aiming for a precise 15-second duration. Teams divide into design, trigger, and construction roles, fostering constant communication and collaboration. Regular progress updates and dry runs maintain momentum and encourage improvement. The activity culminates in live testing of each team's machine, with the closest to the 15-second goal declared the winner. Lasting 2-2.5 hours, this exercise promotes creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and teamwork as groups work together to create complex, interconnected mechanisms under time pressure.

About the activity

Based on the popular Tom & Jerry cartoon where Tom attempts to capture Jerry through an elaborate mouse trap that works on its own!

  • Each team receives a bag of numerous props ranging from jenga blocks to pipes – each in different quantities, sizes and shapes!
  • The objective for teams is to facilitate the movement of 5 balls from start to finish where each ball is triggered by the previous ball so that they can accurately measure a desired time – 15 seconds.
  • Teams decide on various roles to create the machine and these include the design team, the triggers team and the construction team. All these three teams will be in constant communication with each other to ensure the objective is met with meticulously
  • The facilitators will make regular announcements of each teams progress and even host dry runs so that teams pick up the pace and complete their machines ahead of time
  • Teams are in a constant creative zone and are in continuous discussions with each other on ways to improve their machine. Every successful trigger is a celebration and teams are motivated further to achieve the impossible
  • In the end, the facilitators measure the machines of each team and announce the results of each team, live!
There are teams who come close to the 15 second mark but the team that hits closest to the goal will be adjudged as the winner of this activity!
